Dec 06, 2006 11:35 AM By Greg & Sheryl Nisely Surface Conditions: Rough Visibility: 80-100ftft Temperature: 81° Current: Slight Well, we finally made it and have done our first day of diving.
I'm going to touch on two things - our trip to get here, and of course our first diving day. We live in Utah so we fly out of Salt Lake City to make all the connections. We had to take the Red Eye out of SLC on Sat 12/2, which makes for a long day. No problems with the flight, but the next time we do this trip we're going to fly in earlier to Atlanta and spend the night - much easier on the body, especially for us old folks! Made our connection to Grand Cayman then Cayman Air to Little Cayman. No problems along the way and all the luggage made it. Having long layovers does make it nice for the luggage. Total trip time - 12 noon on 12/2, arriving at LCBR at 4.30pm on 12/3 - see what I mean by a long day. This is our 4th trip to Little Cayman and 3rd to LCBR. We can't say enough positive things about the place. The diving is great. As far as we're concerned, this is our favourite place to dive. There's not alot of big stuff, but for overall diving, nothing beats it. I know we'll be back many more times. Today we dove Bus Stop, Blacktip Boulevard and Coconut Walk, and like all sites, they were great. The last dive was a bit surgey and it made things interesting gettin back on the boat, but like everything involved with diving, Reef Divers took perfect care of us. We saw a couple of reef sharks off The Wall, turtles and all the usual little critters. Some of the other divers saw an eagle ray, but we missed out on that. 3 great dives, just like I'm sure the rest will be. That's it. Just wanted to post a note about our travel experience and the first day of diving. If you haven't been here before, it needs to go on your list. If you have, then I'm sure you can't wait to get back. Happy diving! I was asked to recount a story of my stay here at Little Cayman Beach Resort. The most memorable one for me occurred today (11/08) on our morning dive. For the second dive, I chose not to dive and stay on board the boat with Vici, one of our divemasters. While waiting for the others to return from their dive, Vici noticed a white plastic bottle coming directly towards us. This was directly opposed to the winds and tide flowing in the opposite direction.
As we both watched this approaching object, it became obvious that it was an old Clorox bottle. Neither she nor I could figure this situation out until we both noticed it was tied to a fishing line and hooked to a shark coming directly at our craft. I noticed that this creature was a Tiger Shark some 15 to 18 feet long. We both became quite frightened for ourselves and more importantly for our fellow divers still below. It was at that point in time that I had to take quick action. I grabbed for my dive knife, grasped it in my teeth and jumped overboard to do battle with this beast. Vici stayed on board while I wrestled the beast with only dive knife as protection. Using brute strength and adrenaline induced might, I was able to arm lock the Tiger and hold its mouth shut while Vici's jumped in the treatcherous waters and cut the fishing line and free the bottle. I now felt it was safe to release the man eating shark, let it go its way and make a safe return for our fellow divers to gain re-entry to the boat. Vici and I both reboarded the craft and waited for our fellow divers to safely return. An exciting interlude to a very pleasant week on Little Cayman..... THIS IS MY STORY, AND I'M STICKING WITH IT! Little Cayman, you roll Little Cayman, you rock and roll Little Cayman, you soothe my soul Verse 1 Everybody oughta jump in the water Giant stride with a buddy by your side Equalize, then start to fantasize Mermaid tails, sharks as big as whales Verse 2 Move with the motion; let go your emotion It's a sexy ocean if you've got the notion When the sponges spawn as you're cruisin' along You know they're gettin' it on! Verse 3 I'm looking for hammerheads Along the Bloody Bay Wall. I'm looking for treasure From ships that sank. But I'm the one hammered From the rum I drank I swear I saw a sea slug dressed in pink! © 2006 Song Ceremonies "Custom Songs for all Occasions" www.songceremonies.com Suzanne Pierson Category: General | Posted By: Dive Master Nov 14, 2006 10:36 AM I Love to go Diving Staff | Dive Club I love to go diving with Weaver's Dive
